Old-school R&B legend Taj Mahal has been making quality roots music since the mid-'60s. As evidenced by this 1999 compilation, he has been going full-force ever since. Culled from several albums throughout the '90s, BLUE LIGHT BOOGIE ranges from wall-of-sound large-ensemble performances ("River of Love" and ""Don't Call Us") to stripped-down arrangements (such as his solo cover of the Stones' "Honky Tonk Women"). The disc is packed with guest stars, including James Brown, Hiram Bullock, Hall and Oates, Sheryl Crow, Paul Shaffer, and Steven Seagal(!).
